Burke McGrath was a regular halfback during his junior and senior years as those teams went 11-1. He was a triple threat player who ran, punted, and passed the ball. He scored 17 touchdowns and kicked 14 extra points for a total of 118 points in eight games. Against Willoughby, he had runs of 80, 70, 55, 53, and three more at 20 yards each, scoring four touchdowns as Latin won 67-0. During the next game against Shaker Heights, he scored a record five touchdowns. His record 80-yard interception return against St. Ignatius clinched a Latin victory and the City Catholic championship. He played guard on the basketball city championship team on which he was a regular catcher. McGrath led the Lions to back-to-back City Championships in 1919-1920.
