Another star on the early standout NDCL baseball teams was Tom Martin. Tom was a teammate with Tim Salcer on the 1995 and 1996 teams and was named a Collegiate Baseball High School All-American in his senior year of 1997. He was also the NDCL Athlete of the Year for 1997.

As a three-year starter and captain of the 1997 team, Tom helped lead these Lion baseball teams to three seasons and an overall record of 63-15, and a combined winning percentage of 80.8%. The 1995 team was 19-5 anf finished second in the NCL. In his senior year, the Lions went 24-5 to win the NCL title and crushed Lake Catholic 10-0 in the district final to advance to the regional level for the first time.

Both a talented and outstanding hitter, Tom was first team All-Ohio in both 1996 and 1997 - and played in the All-Ohio Mizuno All-Star Game in 1997. Hee was also named Player of the Year by the Cleveland Plain Dealer and The News-Herald for both seasons.

Tom was also named NCL MVP for both of those three seasons. He still holds five all-time NCL hitting and pitching records. His senior team defeated league rival Lake Catholic to advance to the state regionals for the first time.

For his excellent play, Tom was awarded a baseball scholarship from Kent State University, where he was captain of the 2002 KSU baseball team. That year, he was twice named ALL-MAC Player of the Week and named to the All-MAC Tournament Team.
