John Bauer was captain of the football team during the 1928 season as they went 5-3-2 during Herb Eisele's first year as head football coach at Latin. This team also played in Latin's new stadium for the first time. He was selected on the All-Catholic first and second team of the All-City Scholastic team. As a junior, he was a regular guard on the team which won 10 straight games. They also won the Catholic title beating St. Ignatius, a City title beating West High, and the State title beating Coshocton before going to Waco, Texas for the National title where they lost. He went on to play football for the University of Dayton.
