The 1947 Tower Memories yearbook described Virginia Skuly as "an indispensable player on every team." Virginia's love for athletics extended beyond her play on the courts and fields. She also served as president of the NDA Athletic Association as a senior and was a sportswriter for the school paper and a yearbook.
During this era, there were no interscholastic athletic contests available for young women. Consequently, the NDA Athletic Association offered spirited competition to the students by holding athletic contests among the four grade levels. Virginia always displayed her preppy and enthusiastic leadership for the 1947 teams.
In her senior year, Virginia led her teams to school championships in volleyball and basketball, although the yearbook does not reveal the basketball winner. They volleyball title came with a dramatic last-minute rally to give the seniors a 38-36 victory over the juniors. In basketball, the seniors topped the juniors by a 23-18 rally.
After NDA, Virginia received a teaching degree from Lake Erie College. She never lost her competitive edge, remaining a league champion golfer until her death. She passed away in 1999.
