Dick played all four years on varsity wrestling compiling a 91-23 record. He was team captain for three years and was twice MVP. Dick also played one year on varsity track and varsity cross country. Following the close of Latin, Dick was senior wrestler of the year in 1980 for St. Joseph. He was a two-time sectional champ and state qualifier, and a three-time district qualifier. Dick placed third in the Ohio State Championships in 1979 at 132 lbs. He was a two-time Cleveland Plain Dealer All Star of the Week and two-time Cleveland Press All Star of the Week. Dick also was the 1980 News Herald All Star of the Year at 138 lbs.

Dick attended Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. He participated all 4 years in varsity wrestling and was captain of the team for two years. He was a Mid American Conference (MAC) place winner 2 times Dick has lived in Athens, Ohio since graduating from Ohio University. He was an assistant coach for the wrestling team for four years. He was an Ohio High School Official for Wrestling for 11 years. He was voted to officiate the Ohio State Wrestling Championship five times.
