Hall of Fame
Gary Jeter has to be listed among one of the greatest defensive lineman to play for Cathedral Latin. His nomination for the Latin Hall of Fame this year was a unanimous choice by the committee. In addition to his team having an excellent 7-2-1 record during the 1972 season, Jeter was named to the All-American teams selected by Parade and Scholastic magazines. He was chosen as the outstanding area player by the Knights of Columbus, lineman of the year by the Associated Press, and All-Ohio first team.
After graduation from USC, he was the number one draft choice of the New York Giants where he played six seasons. He also played for the Los Angeles Rams. He was a Cleveland Press All-Scholastic in 1971 and 1972. As the area's outstanding player, he was awarded the Rockne Award by the University of Notre Dame. He played varsity all four years at USC and played in three Rose Bowl games (1974, 1975,1977) and one Liberty Bowl (1975).Â
