Jim O'Day was an outstanding center on the gridiron for the Latin Lions. His steady play at center offensively and his linebacking play on defense earned him honors on the All-Senate team, Second Team All-Scholastic, and honorable mention All-Ohio. His senior team went 9-1. They not only defeated Massillon 16-12 that season, they also won the City Championship versus Rhodes 14-0, under new head coach Augie Bossu for the Lions fifth consecutive City title.
Jim was president of the Alumni Association and was instrumental in starting the Hall of Fame in 1961. He is also inducted in the Duquesne University Hall of Fame.
