Kevin was a two-year regular on the Latin varsity basketball team. As a junior, he was the second highest scorer on the team, scoring 186 points as the team won four and lost 13. As a senior, he was the starting center and scored 255 points as the team won 11 and lost eight, for third place in the East Senate league. Averaging 18 points and 14 rebounds per game, he was the leading scorer and rebounder on the team, and the East Senate league scoring champion. During his high game of the season, he scored 34 points against Collinwood. The highlight of his senior season was Latin upsetting perennial power team East Tech 62-47, ending East Tech's 73-game win streak on their home court. Kevin scored 24 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Later that season, Latin defeated East Tech again.

For his outstanding play that season, Kevin was selected MVP on the Latin team, selected on the Plain Dealer Dream Team and as a Press Star. Other honors received were: University Bulletin All-Catholic, All-East Senate, Call and Post All-Scholastic, Plain Dealer All-Scholastic , All-Sectional teams and Honorable Mention All-District.
