Brian McCall was a coach at Cathedral Latin from 1952 to 1957. He held various positions in both football and basketball. As a junior varsity basketball coach for five years, his teams won the city title three times. During his head coaching tenure he made Latin well known throughout the state. His four-year record (1953-1957) of all games played was won 69, lost 17 (80.2%). It included winning two city runner-up titles, one city title, three district titles, one regional title and reaching the final four in Columbus.

His last team 1956-57, was undoubtedly one of the best in Cleveland's history, they won 16 regular season games with no losses, won the city title playoff game, plus six tournament games for 23 consecutive wins before losing in the state semifinals in overtime in Columbus. It was the best record in school history. The team averaged 95 points per game and broke almost every school record. Three of his players went on to become Latin head coaches and member of the Hall of Fame - Norm Baracz, '57, Joe Perella, '58, and Don Gacey '58.

After leaving Latin, Brian coached basketball at the University of Maine for ten years and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
