Ed Delahanty was an outstanding member of the track eam. He earned three letters for his accomplishments in the shot put and discus. As a sophomore, he broke the school shot put record with a throw of 44'. The existing record was 43'. As a junior, he won the Northeast Ohio Meet with a toss of 45' 6.5". Ed really arrived in his senior year. He took first place in the Public Hall Meet setting a record of 46' 11.5", first in the Mansfield Relays, (48' 4.5), first in Euclid Shore, (49' 2"), first in East Tech & East Meet (48'5), first against Cleveland Heights, Holy Name and beat the existing state record of 50' 9", first in the Northeast Ohio Meet - a new record of 49' 7.75". Ed placed second in the Columbus State Meet and finished third in the National Scholastic Catholic Meet at Notre Dame University. In his senior year, he set school records in both the shot put and discus. Ed also starred in football for three years. As a junior, he was a regular tackle and as a member of the City Champs in 1932 and was selected to second team All-Scholastic. As a senior, Ed was shifted to a regular fullback by coach Herb Eisele and was selected to the All-Catholic team.
