Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School

The first track and cross country coach at NDA 25 years ago, Jerry Hippley was awarded NCL Coach of the Year in 2002 (girls track); 1990-1993, 2000 (girls cross country); and 1996 and 1997 (boys cross country). He coached six athletes to the state cross country championships, five to the state track championships and two 4x800 meter relay teams to place winners at state. In addition, three of his student-athletes qualified as entrants in the first-ever state indoor track championship in 2007. 

Although Hippley ran cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track during his years as a student at St. Igantius, a serious leg injury prevented him from running at John Carroll University. Subsequently, he ran track while in the U.S. Marine Corps and thereafter as a Cleveland area roadrunner. He used his experience to teach youngsters during the 1970s for the CYO programs prior to accepting the position at NDA.
