Ken Connare was a track standout on Latin's track team for three seasons in which he earned monograms. As a sophomore, he was member of the mile relay team with his brother Hal, Jack Van de Motter and Peter Sheehan that finished second in the city-wide meet at public hall. They went on to win every outdoor meet for the mile relay that season, including the Mansfield Relays. The team set a new record for the mile of 3:26.80 as they won the event. Ken achieved success as a runner in the 440 yard dash. He placed second in the state qualifying meet and second in the National Catholic High School Meet at the University of Notre Dame. Connare also played basketball his junior and senior years. His junior team went 11-3 and advanced to the district playoffs before losing to Akron Central. As a senior, the team was 8-8. Ken was the high scorer on that team with 92 points. Latin's sports teams at this time were known as the "Purple's."
