Hall of Fame
Sr. Kay, NDA '57 played softball, volleyball and basketball all four years in high school, with basketball being her favorite. During Sr. Kay's junior and senior year, her teams won in volleyball, basketball, softball, and badminton. Her gym teacher Jean Dreisig (Thomas) inspired her to become a Phys. Ed. teacher. Upon graduating from college in 1961, "Miss O'Malley" became a fixture in the halls of Notre Dame Academy.
11 years later, however, her students were surprised to learn of her decision to enter the convent. As Sr. Patrick Brigid, she was transferred to Regina High School where she taught P.E. from 1973 to 1984, in addition to coaching basketball and softball, and serving as the athletic director. While at Regina, Sr. Kay played a key role in starting the first girls' sports league in Cleveland, called The Greater Cleveland Catholic Girls' Athletic Conference.
In 1984, Sr. Kay was welcomed home to NDA as the varsity tennis coach and JV basketball and softball coach. As a tennis coach, the NDA enjoyed a championship year.Â
